Description

Fraser’s GEMSAS GPA Calculator gives you the most accurate weighted and unweighted GPA estimate for each Postgraduate Australian Medical School.

Welcome to our GEMSAS GPA Calculator! This tool is designed to help you estimate your Grade Point Average (GPA) for medical school applications in Australia. By providing a clear understanding of your GPA, you can better strategize and prepare for your medical school journey.

How to Use the GEMSAS GPA Calculator

Using our GEMSAS GPA Calculator is simple and straightforward. All you need to do is input your grades for each year of study, and the calculator will do the rest. It calculates your GPA for each Australian University based on whether they use a weighted or unweighted GPA.

Understanding How Your GPA is Calculated

The calculation of GPA can vary between universities, with some using a weighted GPA and others an unweighted GPA. A weighted GPA takes into account the year level of your studies, giving more weight to later years. This means that your final year results are more important than your earlier results.

On the other hand, an unweighted GPA is simply the average of your subject GPAs, with all years of study given equal importance.

Calculating Weighted GPA

The weighted GPA is calculated using the following formula:

  • (Final Year GPA x 3) + (Second Last Year GPA x 2) + (Third Last Year GPA x 1) / 6

For example, if your GPAs for the final, second last, and third last years are 6.5, 6.0, and 5.5 respectively, your weighted GPA would be:

  • (6.5 x 3) + (6.0 x 2) + (5.5 x 1) / 6 = 6.17

Calculating Unweighted GPA

The unweighted GPA is calculated using the following formula:

  • (Final Year GPA + Second Last Year GPA + Third Last Year GPA) / 3

Using the same GPAs as above, your unweighted GPA would be:

  • (6.5 + 6.0 + 5.5) / 3 = 6.0

Which University uses the Weighted vs Non-Weighted GPA

Navigating the intricate waters of medical school applications? It's crucial to note that some Australian medical schools place double emphasis on the GAMSAT Section 3 score, while others don't.
