2023 USyd Entry Calculator

Welcome to our University of Sydney (USyd) Medicine Entry Calculator! This calculator has been built using the 2023 USyd Admissions Handbook, as well as data collated from hundreds of applicants to improve your chances of admission into USyd’s 2023 cohort following changes to their entry requirements. 

It ranks each of your section scores and merges them into a final rank to assess your chances of meeting the new threshold required.

How Does the USyd Medicine Entry Calculator Work?

Unlike other universities, the University of Sydney ranks applicants for each individual section. Our USyd Medicine Entry Calculator takes this unique approach into account to predict your chances of receiving an offer.

Choose the scores that you will use in your application to USyd by not picking and choosing different section scores across different sittings, but instead using the full set of section scores from the one sitting. Please note that you will not be eligible for MD at USyd if you have one or more section scores that are less than 50. Results do not take into account rural or Indigenous bonuses.

Understanding University of Sydney (USyd's) Approach to GAMSAT Scores

USyd's Faculty of Medicine has a unique approach to evaluating GAMSAT scores. Rather than focusing on the highest overall or average GAMSAT score, they consider several factors:

1. Applicants must have a GPA of 5.0 or higher and a score of at least 50 in each GAMSAT section. Failing to meet these criteria will result in automatic disqualification.
2. Shortlisted applicants are ranked based on their GAMSAT scores in the following order: Section 1, Section 2, and then Section 3.
3. The final 'Merged Rank' is calculated by averaging these ranks, providing an overall rank for each applicant.

This process places a higher emphasis on Section 1 scores, with Section 2 also being considered to a lesser extent. A high score in Section 1 can significantly boost your rank, as the average and standard deviation for Section 1 are smaller than that of Section 3. This doesn't mean a high Section 3 score is a disadvantage; it's just not as advantageous as the same score in Section 1.
